Milky Oats Tincture
Milky Oats (Avena sativa) are a slow acting tonic that can repair frazzled nerves, support stressed adrenals, calm your mind and nourish your nervous system. Milky Oats can safely be combined with any kind of medication and are gentle enough for kids and elders. This tincture is at its most powerful when taken consistently over time, but we’ve also found it to be supportive in moments of acute stress or anxiety.*
We sow these oat seeds in the Fall before the rains begin and they act as a cover crop, nourishing the soil as they grow. The seed heads are at their most medicinal in June, before the seeds mature and when they are “milky” and full of latex. We harvest the oat heads by hand, stripping them from their stalks for days (!) to tincture fresh and then dry the rich stems for tea.
