Ashwagandha Tincture
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a powerful root that comes from Ayurveda medicine. As an adaptogen, Ashwagandha strengthens the nervous system and adrenals without being too stimulating. It can also be a restorative tonic postpartum, in debility, for nervous exhaustion, when iron-deficient or in menopause.*
We start the seeds for this warm weather plant every Spring in the greenhouse, then harvest roots in the late Fall once the tomato-like fruits have formed their seeds and the leaves start to die back with the cold. We then chop these fragrant and very hard roots (!) dry them, powder them, and make a potent tincture for the year.
