Steadfast Herbs 2019 Internship

We are located at Root Down Farm in Pescadero, CA. Pescadero is 45 minutes from Santa Cruz, 1 hr 15 minutes from San Francisco and 1 hr 30 minutes from Oakland. There is limited cell reception and internet access on the farm. In terms of accessibility- the land, garden and workshop are on flat but uneven ground Parking is available on the farm, there is drinking water and a covered outdoor kitchen for breaks (this is shared with residents of the farm) and the available bathroom is a port-a-potty. There are a number of dogs here currently, so we can not accommodate more dogs at this time.


We are looking for interns who can commit to one 7 hour workday (preferably on a Wednesday) every other week from May-October.


Although we are not able to pay cash for your labor, it’s important to us that you receive compensation for your work. We can offer part one-on-one education and part trade.  

  • At the start of the internship, we will discuss your interests in regards to growing and herbalism, and during each shift, we will provide a 1 hour, one-on-one lesson around these topics.

  • At the end of each month, you can receive $40 in trade for fresh herbs, seedlings, or credit towards upcoming workshops.

Daily Schedule

  • 1 hour of formal instruction

  • 1 hour in breaks

  • 5 hours of work in the garden, greenhouse or workshop


We are largely looking for help with garden maintenance, including:

  • Weeding

  • Mulching

  • Planting

  • Digging/forking beds

  • Harvesting

We will also need help with medicine making including:

  • Drying herbs

  • Garbling and processing dried herbs

  • Tincture making

  • Tincture pressing

We may also ask for help with the following:

  • Photo documentation

  • Social media posting


We are looking for folks who are:

  • Committed to antiracism and have experience in queer and trans community

  • Self-directed

  • Open to instruction

  • Comfortable working outside

  • Able to work in the sun and heat (it’s not often hot here but it does happen!)

  • Comfortable digging and lifting

  • Able to commit for the whole season (May-Oct)
